Sun damage

Sun damage is a skin phenomenon that often occurs later in life. You will then get small rough spots on your skin. UV light also affects the formation of sun spots or age spots (lentigines), especially on your hands, décolleté and face. Skin disorders such as rosacea, Civatte’s poikyloderma, melasma or couperose can also be aggravated by sunlight.

Originate Collagen and elastin break down into small pieces due to exposure to sunlight or more specifically; ultraviolet light. Frequent exposure to sunlight accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin, causing -among other things- wrinkles.

  • It is important to protect your skin from the sun. Make sure you always have a good sunscreen in your bag/purse. This will prevent you from developing skin problems in older age, such as skin cancer, wrinkles, benign skin tumors and pigmentation spots.
  • Smoking is not recommended. Smoking can break down the elastin and connective tissue, causing wrinkling.
  • Skincare with retinal (vitamin A) and vitamin C protects your skin against sun damage and aging.
